勇于敢则杀，勇于不敢则活，知此两者或利或害。
天之所恶，孰知其故？
天之道，不争而善胜，不言而善应，不召而自来，坦然而善谋。
天网恢恢，疏而不漏。
Translation
He who puts his courage into daring finds death.
He who puts his courage into not daring finds life.
Of these two, one is beneficial, the other is harmful.
When heaven hates someone, who could fathom his reasons?
Therefore, the sage hesitates to act.
Such is the way of heaven.
It does not struggle, yet it knows how to win.
It does not speak, and yet beings know to obey.
It does not call them, and yet they come of their own accord.
It seems slow, yet it knows how to devise skillful plans.
The net of heaven is vast, its meshes are wide yet nothing escapes.

E: The word 杀 shā, commonly 'to kill', means here 'to die' (it becomes passive by position).
E: These two things are the act of daring and the act of not daring. The word 利 lì 'is useful' corresponds to the word 活 huó 'to live'; the word 害 hài 'to harm' corresponds to the word 杀 shā 'to die'.
Heaven loves the good and hates the wicked. He who dares to act (B: who dares to struggle for the first place; A: who dares to act) incurs the hatred of heaven. Therefore, this behavior is disastrous and yields no benefit. But the people are blind; they never know the reasons of heaven. Only the sage can fathom the views of heaven. Therefore, in affairs, he finds everything difficult and dares not undertake anything.
E: Heaven does not struggle with men, and there is no one it does not overcome; it does not speak, and they respond to it as quickly as the echo responds to the voice; it does not call them, and they come of their own accord to rectify their hearts.
E: Heaven seems slow; but it excels in devising plans. Although the net of the world's defenses has tight meshes (that is, however severe the penal laws are), there are many men (criminals) who succeed in escaping punishment. The net of heaven is vast and great; it seems to have wide meshes; but there is no wicked person who can avoid it.
苏辙 : He acts slowly; one would think he is planning nothing, and yet his plans and designs are so lofty that no one can match them. When the men of the world look at heaven with their eyes, they see only a narrow corner; they cannot discover its vastness. Sometimes a man does good and falls into misfortune; sometimes he does evil and obtains happiness. The people have no doubt that the net of heaven has meshes too wide and that many criminals escape punishment. But, if one knows how to wait for the end, one soon recognizes that although the net of heaven is vast and its meshes seem wide, yet it lets no criminal escape.
